Finally... its here, my first little political struggle. People trying to push work into my subordinates bucket. From the looks of it, I should have the upper hand in this struggle. Now just have to wait for boss to meet with the 3 of us the thrash it out..... haiz...

Screw up internet
Initially, I was impressed that in Batam, the hotel is running wireless broadband. But as time goes by, more dirt gets swept out under the carpet.
- You need to be on the even number side of the building to have decent connection
- Since aftger CNY, the connection has been lousy. Sites are randomly inaccessible
- Connection drops now and then....
Not wanting to complain too much.. at least I get to surf...well... sort of....

Full Week Ahead
A new week stands ahead of me. A true full week. Holiday season is over and the real work begins.

2) Laptop got logged out due to the stupid me who went to change some settings

TGI Thursday
Thursday now comes to me as a day I look forward to every week. Why because I will know that Friday will be a short working day for me and a peaceful weekend awaits.
Life has a slight change with this new environment. I wake up at 6 in the morning to prepare for work, knocks off at 530pm sharp, finishes dinner by 7pm and goes to bed at 1030pm. Compared to my routine in my previous job, its much better and I find more time for myself, although there is not much I can do in Batam....

My sound card seems to be dead after watching "Curse of the Golden Flower". Wierd..... is there really a curse?? only thing is that I need to pump the volume up during the show to hear what the characters are saying....

Shopping on CNY Day 2
I think I was out of my mind... Went to Suntec and Marina Sq, hoping for some decent shopping. I was dead wrong.... Shops that were opened

Home Coming
Finally... home at last....
Had a good Japanese dinner in Sun and Moon, located in Wheelock Place. Interesting dinner cos I had an interesting dinner neighbor, a well dressed lady with a guy.
The lady was best at her dress sense ONLY... Words coming out from her gap were downright disgusting and unlady like... "What the hell", "shit", "hell", "lah", "then"...you name it you have it. She was 2 seats away.. and it was pretty loud and clear. What a lian.... think the only form of English she knows is Singlish... not that I am looking for Queen's english... but at least some proper pronunciation right?? ....
It always leaves me wondering.. are people paying too much on their exterior and totally forget the speech and mannerism?? Its really a whole package you know......

Boss Luncheon
Had a 1-to-1 lunch with boss. Its actually the 1st time I meet him since I joined the new company. We talked a lot, actually he did most of the talking. He has a lot of expectations from me especially he had a similar career background as me. For a moment, I felt very lost cos most of the tasks ahead are very new to me and yet very critical for the company. Hope I can pull through... now where did I leave the "Stop Procastination" CD.....

Day 2: To Batam
Met up with colleague at harbourfront to take the batam ferry. Everything went pretty smoothly, even bumped into my customs friend who showed me a shorter way of getting cleared. You just need to scan your passport, follow my your thunbprint.. Simple.. yet not many people used it.. wierd... or uninformed...
Reached Batam in 45mins and cleared the custom there smoothly. Journey to the factory was about 30mins.
Started the work day with meeting with the rest of my team. A team that I must take time to understand their jobscope and capabilities. As the meeting continous... more and more were added to my To-Do items... seems like my job is "bao ka liao"
Lunch was at a chinese food eatery...waited for at least 1 hour for our food. Talk about serial processing... the dishes actually come 1 at a time.... end up lunch took 2hours.. I only ordered chicken rice....duh... need to get use to such things here...
Dinner was at the chinese owned eating place... not bad... but the streets really feel chaotic and unsafe especially when the sun sets.. maybe its becos I am not familiar with this place yet... lets wait and see....

Day 1 Done Deal
Day started of with a good subway breakfast in Science Park.
Arrived at 9am and started off with HR orientation. Lasted till lunch... covered many stuff that I dun think I can remember. Met up with my predecessor, ex-seagator BB form CSO who left more than 5 years ago... somehow he looks very familiar...
Had lunch with my predecessor, HR manager and HR staff at IMM follow by CNY mandarin orange buying for company CNY dinner of Fri... and all batam SG staff will get a day off for CNY holidays... cool! at least can stay in SG 1 day longer.. hehe
Got my laptop in the afternoon with email acc installed, how efficient can it get!
Tomorrow will journey to Batam and only to return on Thu. Hope still can come online...

10 Hours to Go
10 more hours to new job. Wonder if I can knock off early to buy some last minute stuff to bring to batam.. hehe..
Only felt slight excitment.. dunno why... maybe because I may be spending CNY there. Now.. where is my passport and bank book....

Its one more day to my new job. Feeling slightly excited but mainly apprehensive. A lot of unknowns ahead and they are slowly eating me up emotionally.
The good news is that I do not need to head for Batam on my 1st day of work, which gives me time to prepare logistically and emotionally. I will get to know of what to expect and better prepare myself for it.
Last 3 days were spent with friends. Friends from work, friend's wedding and friends of 12 years, who came to know about my new job and posting. Its really heartening to see everyone.. well all 3.. appear together for dinner, drinks and chitchat. You don't get this sort of turn out very often. Its either the family man can't make it or the busy me.
Really dunno what to expect of the new job, but definitely a whole lot to learn. Gotta shop for some books to bring over to read.

A Chapter Closes...
Finally, the last day of my journey with Seagate has arrived. Had lunch with many of my colleagues at the prata shop that I ate on my 1st day of work. Everything has come full circle.
Many people were initially shocked by my decision to leave, for I am doing very well in my department. I am truly grateful to my bosses and mentors throughout my 5 1/2 years in Seagate. Truly blessed with great bosses and close friends at work.
Showered with great and useful gifts from my friends at work. Thanks everyone! They will be very handy in days to come.
People asked me how I felt today. Its really a mix of feelings. My 感性 weeps as I will be leaving many of my friends. No ordinary friends are they, we spent many a great times together. Oversea trips, field trips, shopping trips, lots of good makan session. Its really hard to part with such great bondings. The 理性 side of me rejoice as a new challenge awaits me.
Thanks my friends for this chapter of my life. Although this chapter closes, our friendships and bond will not.
