Back to Reality

After a week in winter... now its back to the hot and humid tropics with some jet lag. The flight back was somewhat easier as I was very very tired.. slept through most of the journey. But still jet lag....

Now zapped back to reality and have to start working hard again. Now ... what did I gained from the Munich trip??

1. Germans are generally not very friendly. They get surprised when you greet them good morning....
2. Germans drink more beer than water
3. Germans drinks carbonated water instead of plain water
4. Germans loves their pork and pretzels
5. Walking in a blizzard is no joke.....

Day 1 cont'd

Woke up at 7... i guess it was due to the difference in time zone.. thats why I woke up so early... had a good breakfast and set off exploring the surround immediately... COLD!!!! After 15mins... went back to the hotel room and change to even warmer clothes.

Reached the Tourist info booth and got an advise to visit the Andechs... a monastery. Took a bus down and here are some pics I took of the place. Bus journey cost SGD4.40 One way... ouch...







There was a service going on in the church and it really sound like the Gregorian Monks you hear in the CDs.... Then I head off THE place.. which is the drinking area. It was so crowded.. for a Monday late morning. Bought a beer(brewed by the monks) and shared a standing table with a couple of germans. The one next to me began to talk to me, and found that he was working in Singapore in the 70s... cool! So he starts telling of the time when he stay and held his wedding in Taipan hotel which I have idea whether this hotel still exist. Well... it was a fun chat with him and hear him talk about his times in Singapore and his wedding there. We even took a picture together.

Day 1

Flight from SG to Frankfurt arrived on 15mins ahead of schedule. Followed the connecting crowd to the other terminal... boy... it was a pretty long walk. At the domestic terminal, connecting flight to Munich was delayed by 30mins due to strong winds.

Finally reached Munich at 1130pm and journey to Herrsching was about 45mins. Fell in and out of sleep throughout the journey. As i near Herrsching I realised that it was actually snowing.... my frist snow in my life and I was too damn tired to enjoy it.

Hotel frontdesk was closed and the left my room key at the main door, this is how safe this place is. After some struggle with getting in via the backdoor. I began searching my room which was on the first floor.... and I couldn't find it..well.. stupid me.. I was at the GROUND floor and 1st floor is a level up... me and my lousy english... Got into my room and I was surprised by the simple furnishing and decor, but it was a pretty large, practical and comfortable room. Not the fancy rooms that I am used to back home.

Well... after a long flight and car ride... lack of sleep... fell asleep immediate after calling back home.

18 Mar - Reach Munich at 11pm
19 Mar - Own time till dinner, to dine with the team
20 Mar - Conference
21 Mar - Conference
22 Mar - Conference + organized tour of Munich till 9pm
23 Mar - Wrap up and transfer to my self booked hotel
24 Mar - Own Time till 4pm, to the airport
25 Mar - Hit SG at 5pm.....

So really not much time at all for sightseeing. But anyways... looking forward to the trip....

An Exodus

Got news that another in my ex-company quits.. That's 3 in 3 months.... think the department has the highest turn over now. The only consolation is that the 3 of us are all moving to better places. I do hope that this exodus of people will make the management do something about the current pool of people.

Surprise Surprise

Started the day in office as per normal. When I turn on the email.. a whole string of similar titled email appeared. Read through them and.... wooo hooo... I AM HEADING TO MUNICH THIS WEEKEND!!!!

And its to attend some conference. Cool! only sad thing is I won't be able to extend the stay cos I am still under probation so no unnecessary leave. So I only have 1 day to myself in Munich before I fly back.

The itinerary seems pretty screw up.. due to the last minute ticketing. Can't believe that the flight to Frankfurt this weekend is so back. Hoping for better itinerary tomorrow...

Busy Sunday

Met up with 3 groups of friends for lunch, tea and dinner. Also, shopped for a pair of shoes for work. All these while having a bad allergic reaction to the fabric dust in British India, Takashimaya. Busy busy but very happy day.

Micro-Management

Thats the lunch topic today. Surprise to hear that my boss is a very much micro-manager. I wonder what will happen when he returns on Monday.

I guess being micro-managed undermines a person's true capability. It always leaves me to wonder what goes on in the mind of a micro-manager. It must be very exhausting to get involve in everything in the company. By I guess some people likes to be in full control. I have seen 2 ends of management style, free for all and micro-management. I guess middle ground is the most comfortable for all. Its something I would also want to practice, letting your subordinates run free and only tighten when you see the need.

Adopting a style of open policy.. I wonder how will I fare when my boss start to micro-manage me thus forcing me to chain up my guys...scary thought... but have to get prepared for it.

CNY : 15th Day

Today is the 15th day of the new lunar year. For me, these 15 days passed by very fast this time round. I guess its mainly due to my new job nature. Just have to start getting use to it.

Weekend now is especially precious. For the past 3 weekends, I did not sleep before 3 and surprisingly I managed to wake up before 10 in the morning. And only to get sleepy again in the early afternoon especially after a heavy lunch. Some how, I feel that its a time well spent. Time spent on watch soaps, anime and lazing around. So to compensate that, time to put in more effort in having more constructive weekday evenings....
